Workshop IMPROVING FUTURE EMERGENCY RESPONSE (20 Juni 2007)

Workshop IMPROVING FUTURE EMERGENCY RESPONSE

On May 27th 2006 an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas. Some 6,000 lives were lost and a further 350,000 made homeless by the quake and the aftershocks that occurred. CARE International, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Save the Children, and World Vision, were among the International and local NGOs responding to the needs of those affected by the quake, providing shelter kits and non food items and setting up emergency response programmes covering a range of programming areas.

Starting emergency operations for the first time in Jogjakarta, CARE, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Save the Children, and World Vision are committed to using their experience working in this area to improve future emergency responses in Jogjakarta and elsewhere.

As part of accountability, CARE, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Save the Children, and World Vision will conduct a workshop with a title of:

IMPROVING FUTURE EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Objectives of the workshop:

1. Communicate the Yogya JE results to a wider audience (i.e., beyond agencies involved in the Joint Evaluation);

2. Launch the Good Enough Guide to impact Measurement and Accountability in Emergencies to the publics in Jogjakarta;

3. Share Indonesia National Action Plan for Disaster Reduction 2006-2009 and Indonesia Disaster Law
